My experience with buying some prescription glasses and sunglasses online

Well I finally broke down and thought I'd try to get some prescription glasses and sunglasses online...

I first started out with what I thought was a pretty good deal at about $68 for a pair of prescription sunglasses SHIPPED to my house.

But for some reason my payment didn't go through and I tried 3 times and almost ended up ordering 3 of the same pair of glasses... not good...

I then tried to get a better deal and went with another online store and got two pair of prescription sunglasses.

One pair was $38.85 and the other pair was $49.75... Not too bad considering getting them here would run me about $200 per pair...

And then I kept looking and found a pair for $21.50 CDN...

Yes that's right...

$21.50 for a pair of prescription glasses SHIPPED to my house...


I haven't got any of the glasses yet, but I only ordered them 3 days ago and I expect they will arrive within a week or two.

Oddly enough, the first place I tried was about twice as much as the other more expensive one and it was based in Canada, but when I tried to pay, the payment system went down and even though I tried 3 times... my payment never went through...nor did I receive any emails from the site or anything to even indicate that I did try to order glasses from them...

I even tried to call them for about 3 hours on a Friday and I didn't get through even once to any person, in fact, I always got a busy signal or the phone system hung up on me...

Needless to say that I didn't end up ordering from them, even though I did try for several hours to pay for my glasses and get through to them....

Oh well, I saved about 75% on my shades by going with the other sites.

There are lots of other sites as well.

Simply because they were both SUPER CHEAP and they have an easy system to see the status of your orders.

Well I checked the status of my two pair of glasses on

and they are "in manufacture" which is cool as the order is only 3 days old now....

They have a real nice simple interface whereby when you order your glasses you also register and it is a one page payment - registration process... so now I can login and check the status of my glasses

I also checked the status of my order on the http://www.selectspecs.com/ site and I didn't even have to login as it saved a cookie on my computer so that site knows who I am and what my order was... that is nice...

And it says "In Progress"... which is Ok, but not quite as good as "In Manufacture" over at www.zennioptical.com

I just checked my www.selectspecs.com order status online and that site has a pretty cool order status section.

It shows little pictures in a row of where your glasses are in the whole process from when you order them to when they ship them out

Very cool...

It has the status like this:

Lenses Ordered	Frames Ordered	Lenses Arrived	Frames Arrived	Part Entered Glazing	Shipped from Hong Kong

My order is at 'Frames Ordered' but that's ok because it has only been 3 days.

Well yesterday my www.selectspecs.com glasses shipped from Hong Kong and today my www.zennioptical.com shipped from Hong Kong

So we will see when they arrive and if they are what I expect...

Well I got my first pair of sunglasses today and they are great

They are better then any glasses I've got locally and because they have the UV blocking I don't squint anymore....

They are quite nice

They were the pair from www.zennioptical.com so they shipped on the 21st so that was 5 days from Hong Kong.

5 Days shipping from Hong Kong.... pretty darn good...

I got my second pair of prescription sunglasses today from zennioptical and again they are great

Best $50 I've ever spent on glasses..

What more can I say...

Well I have received all of my glasses and I am VERY pleased with all of them!

I have since ordered another pair of sunglasses, which I received and two more pair of just regular prescription glasses, which will probably arrive in a week or two.

It usually takes about 3 weeks from the time you order to when they arrive at your door.

That's pretty good as ordering here locally will take about 10 days and costs about 4 to 10 times as much.

Yes 4 to 10 times as much... No joke..
